Peace in Church

I don't know why but I've always been curious whenever there are news about killings that happen in churches. If I'm not mistaken, these kind of incidents has been on the rise, especially over the recent years. Previously I would have just glanced at the headlines, checked out the place where it happened, and passed it for another "thing" that happens in only certain countries. However, globalization tells us that we are becoming increasingly borderless.

But my point is not about globalization, although it could be a very interesting coffee table topic.

The recent shootings that happened in a church in Tennessee has caused 2 deaths and 7 injuries (as of 28 July 2008). Let's not talk about what church it is. To the non-believers, any church is a church, since most of them couldn't tell the difference. What they would've seen and seek to understand is the fact that the tragedy happened in a church. There are many aspects of this piece of news that we can ponder, that is, if we're interested, including:
  • Why did the man choose a church? What are the antecedents and the implications?
  • What is the impact of these kind of news on us believers?
  • How can we explain to non-believers (if we were ever asked), as to why the tragedy was allowed to happen?
When writing down the questions above, I am not questioning. Rather, I'm just wondering if by seeking the answers, we could understand ourselves and strengthen our faith further.
