A lot of people are feeling depressed nowadays. Depression has become a common term that we use whenever we feel that we are down, when it is just not our day, when we do not feel like getting up in the morning for work, when we do not feel like attending social functions, when we do not feel like going to church, the list goes on. Depression is actually an abused term. It means something more serious, something more pressing than just mood swings. Basically, it is related to loneliness.
What is the cause of loneliness then? I find that often we misunderstand being alone as loneliness. Loneliness is not a physical situation, instead it is a state of mind.
We could be surrounded by 100 strangers, but we could still be lonely because we do not know these people.
We could be surrounded by 100 friends, but we could still be lonely because none of these friends truly knows us.
We could be surrounded by 100 loved ones, but we could still be lonely because none of them understands our struggles nor shares our joy.
We could be alone, but we will not be lonely if we believe that there is at least one out there who wants to know us better.
We could be alone, but we will not be lonely if we believe that there is at least one out there who really knows us.
We could be alone, but we will not be lonely if we believe that there is at least one out there who understands our struggles and shares our joy.
We could be alone, but we will not be lonely, because as Christians we believe that God is with us, guiding us, moulding us, caring for us, loving us, and many other loving gestures that possibly only He can do.
