I was in Carefour the other day with ff looking at stuff and I heard the an announcement of a special promotion of RM 5.90 for any book at the ground floor. So I rushed there and to my surprise, it's not any "
children coloring gay Barney" book. It's real books, that real people read. As I changed into my swimming trunk to jump into a sea of cheap books, ff got so uninterested that she said she'll go and buy tomato. I don't know if she uninterested with me changing or with the books. I seriously hope it's the latter. As I swim in the endless ocean of cheap books, I saw so many books that I was tempted to buy in Borders or MPH at RM 100++ and it's only RM5.90 there. Wicked? Totally. As people starts to swarm the area I knew I had 10min to find some really good books before someone grab it away. So feeling a little bit Kiasu like the Sing, or a little bit smart like sh, I decided to chuck all the nice title into my pathetic basket and filter it out later. Anyway cut the story short, I bought a book called the Civilization of Aztec. Maybe I was feeling like Anthony Hopkins that time, I really wanted to know about human sacrifice and how it all starts. So I went back and I read that book and I found some really nice perspective on Easter day.
The Aztec is a very interesting civilization that starts, flourish and vanish in less than 2 century. They have a very organize social arrangement and everything they do is centralize on a god - or rather many gods. It was reported that the Aztec sacrifices over 80,000 human over a festival of 4 days.
A mask believed to be worn by the victims as they were sacrificedSome are being skinned and a priest would wear the skin of the victims. Really sick and you just can't help but feel sorry for those people that time. All this is to please their gods.
Human sacrifice in the Aztez communitySo cut the story real short, when the Spaniards arrived on 1519 in addition to smallpox disease which the Aztec people has no immunity to, the civilization starts to crumble and fall. The Spaniards starts spreading Christianity to the people and it was accepted very well by the Aztec people. The reason?
They now know of a God that does not require human to be sacrificed unto Him, but instead sacrifices Himself so that human being does not have to die.
God Himself, Jesus Christ, came down to be our sacrifice insteadWow....for RM5.90? That is a book worth reading!!!
