When I was young, I didn't understand the meaning of Good Friday. This state holiday appears on the calendar, and it is applicable only in East Malaysia. So I thought that it's something associated with East Malaysians; perhaps a festival which is only celebrated by East Malaysians. And I wondered what is so good about the Friday.
It was years after I accepted Jesus Christ that I finally understood the significance of Good Friday. Good Friday, and then followed by Easter. It is the day when Jesus was crucified; He died on the cross for us. It is the day when God's love prevailed and God's compassion for His people overcame.
Good Friday is a day of remembrance of God's sacrificial love for us. The bible verse which every Christian would remember - John 3:16 says that "For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life." I remember someone once mentioned that Jesus had to die on the cross not because of Judas' betrayal, but because of our disobedience. Jesus died on the cross not because Judas was sinful, but because we are sinful.
On Good Friday, have you remembered God's sacrificial love for you?
On Good Friday, have you renewed your faith in Jesus Christ our Lord?
Although Jesus' crucifixion took place around two thousand years ago, the significance of it never passed. Let us remember Jesus' love for us not only on Good Friday, but every day as we journey on our walk of faith.
On another note, I wonder why are eggs and rabbits attached to Easter celebrations.
