The Danger

I found this article by Philip Pullman on "What Jesus Christ means to me" as I went through my subscription to articles which are related to books. Pullman is a well-known author, and some of us may have read his books (and even watch the movie version of it). His works included The Golden Compass and Northern Lights which many have claimed to be anti-Christ. I have not read any of these works since The Da Vinci Code is bad enough for me.
I am interested in this article because Pullman sort of justified his decision to not believe. I am amazed to find out that he was brought up as a Christian, but later decided to depend on and believe in human rationality and analysis. I do not have the time to counter-check his claims on the disparities of the Gospels yet, but I think that as Christians, we have to be aware of these questions and doubts. Why bother? For two reasons (at least):
  1. To be able to answer if any of our friends (whether believers or unbelievers) pose these questions to us
  2. To safeguard our own faith - we can be swayed too if we're not careful
It's a long article, but it's worth the time to read through as we see how an educated person articulates on his choice to not have the Christian faith.
