I think direct sales people have polluted the "direct approach" method of evangelism. First thing when a person greet you nicely out of no where ~what is he/she selling? (Pr Joseph). Can't even get the conversation started. Secondly, telling people about Christ is not exactly "most christian's" cup of tea as well. So now we have the person that is talking and the person that is listening and both of them can't wait to end the conversation. Well of course, some are really keen on spreading the gospel and there is little doubt, some are looking for Christ out there waiting for a christian to tell them about Christ or even invite them to attend a bible study group. I guess these are the people that we can't afford to miss ~ that is why we have to strive to evangelise anywhere we can even if it's not our cup of tea (like Job). I think success of converting a non-christian cannot be measured at all. Success is God and He alone can open a person's heart to Christ - not us. Having said that, studies show that on average a person requires 7-9 exposure on Christianity before accepting Christ to their heart. So technically the more you speak to your non-christian friend about Christ, the more chances they will accept Christ. It's common sence if you really mull on it.
