Faithful... an adjective which is easier said than done. In this age and time, faithfulness is really not a trend, so to speak. I have heard of acquintances who change partners every month. Divorce is almost as common as marriage. If you couldn't figure out the way to do it, then just forget about it... why waste your time? (or ask someone else to do it for you).
During the sermon on 30th Nov, we were called to be faithful to the following:
1. Our Family
Have you ever felt that another family is better than yours? Have you ever preferred to go to another person's home than to stay at your own?
With the trend of both parents working and the delusion that money being able to buy everything, we see kids who spent more time away from home than at home. These kids will grow up being independent citizens, no doubt, but what is their faithfulness? Would they know the meaning of faithfulness?
2. Our Finances
What do we do with our monthly income? Well, being city dwellers, each of us would have our financial obligations and what-nots. Each shopping trip can easily cost you RM100, and that's like 5% of the monthly income of an average office worker.
The question which I sometimes ask myself is this: Do I work to live, or do I live to work?
Luke 16:10 -11 mentioned about "true riches". Some have said that true riches here is referring to wisdom, (Godly) power and understanding. Is our work giving us these true riches?
3. The Fellowship
Very often I encounter people who asks, "What can I gain from this?" I had a difficult time trying to explain that it's not all about what they can gain, but it's also about what they can give. Moreover, what we gain does not necessarily depend on the other party, but most of the time it actually depends on our perspective and our willingness to learn too.
The same thing applies to our weekly church worship -- instead of asking "What can I gain from this", can I instead ask, "What can I give for this?"
4. The FAITH
If I am not able to be faithful to the FAITH, am I capable of being faithful to anything else?
